I’m very excited to announce that my piece Counterpane (2024), on view now at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, won one of the Made in VA Biennial awards. 699 artists applied and I won Honorable Mention! I hope you can find time to see it if you're ever in or near Virginia Beach. It's up until January 5, 2025. This piece memorializes my grandfather Mel, who died in 1981 while visiting my family when I was young. It was his 35th wedding anniversary. The pattern from the anniversary card he received that day, along with drawings from his US Patent for "Electric Melting of Solidified Glass in Melting Units," appear throughout the work, highlighting some of his professional and personal achievements. Collaged and overlapped, these elements are brought together to create what could be described as a paper bereavement quilt.
